MERCEDES-BENZ 190 PONTON

MERCEDES-BENZ 190 PONTON

In August 1953, the 180 was presented, the first Mercedes-Benz car to adopt the Ponton bodywork. Characteristic features of this body shape were the fully integrated fenders and the rectangular base profile. This body not only reduced drag and aerodynamic noise, but also made the passenger compartment much more spacious. Another novelty in the history of MERCES-BENZ and of this car is the self-supporting structure, which was welded to the chassis-floor unit. In March 1956 comes the 190, sister of the previous model and equipped with a 75 HP engine, which makes it much more powerful (compared to the 52 HP of the 180).
