The Elan was not a simple evolution of the Elite, but a totally new car. It was in fact the first Lotus with a car body in a single fiberglass element with metal reinforcements on the doors and a central tunnel frame structure.

This design choice, daughter of the philosophy desired by Colin Chapman for his cars, meant that the Elan was extremely light enough to stop at around 640 kg in the first series to reach around 700 kg with the fourth series coupé. Chapman relied on Ford for both the transmission and the engine installed in the front center position. The car went into production with the 1500 cc only for the first 22 examples, which were then converted for free by the house. Subsequent models were fitted with the same engine but with the displacement increased to 1600, probably due to the new homologation standards in the competition field.

Here we find a road car in exceptional conservation conditions and maintained with scrupulous care, imported into Italy in 1990 and converted to left-hand drive, with a new engine and still running in, the adoption of Weber carburetors with 40 oversized valves and re-profiled cams, the exhaust is all in steel.
