FORD ESCORT RS COSWORTH

The Ford Escort RS Cosworth was recognized not only for its rear wing, but also for its performance that was out of the ordinary for its time. It only had the name and design of the Escort, otherwise it was a rally car approved for the road. The Ford Escort RS Cosworth represents the forbidden dream of all car enthusiasts of the first half of the 90s. Immediately recognizable due to the obvious whale-tail spoiler, the Blue Oval sports car brought emotions and driving pleasure to the road that few other cars of its era could boast. The engine was a 4-cylinder 16-valve engine with turbocharger and air/air intercooler cooling system. The displacement was 1,993 cc for a power of 225 HP at 6,250 rpm and 299 Nm at 3,500 rpm, released onto the asphalt by a permanent four-wheel drive system (the torque was distributed 66% to the rear and 34% at the front). The transmission was entrusted to a Ferguson MT-75 five-speed gearbox for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 232 km/h. The Escort RS Cosworth was characterized not only by its incredible technical data, but also by its aerodynamics. A careful study of the air flows had been carried out by Ford technicians in the Cologne wind tunnel, obtaining high downforce at high speed. A good part of this result was the unmistakable rear wing, which was made with the advanced technique of RTM, an acronym for Resin Transfer Molding.

Original car with two owners and never used for competition or sprint races, one of the 80 officially imported into Italy, the mechanics have been completely revamped by the current owner with a total rebuild of the engine (replacement of crankshaft, connecting rods, pythons, bushings, piston rings / head grinding and valve guide replacement / complete clutch pack replacement / turbine overhaul) the car retains the original exhaust. The first owner updated the car with a complete stereo system by replacing the storage pockets with those of the phonovox to insert the woofer and consequently adopted the car with electric window lifters. The car only traveled 75,000 km before being stopped due to a total engine upgrade. The car is freshly painted except for the left front and right rear mudguards which were repainted due to some slight imperfections.
